Don’t Take Guff from Swine
(for Hunter S. Thompson)
“Bad waves of visions,” said the crazyman in the book,
eyes drugfilled red-striped like candycane,
his face contorted on the cover;
a flash of vegas with evil bats and cacti;
this is my own fear and I’ll sow my own loathing
smashing firefly torsos on the front porch,
painting my face with their luminous luciferin,
the edge of my iris,
wild green rooks, crooks,
the funnel and the vein
—I’ve got funerals in my veins!
